The aim of the Challenge is to promote a love of reading. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
As part of the Premiers Reading Challenge, High Country Library Corporation received a significant amount of funding from the State Government which has enabled us to purchase many titles on the reading lists that we did not have and are still in print, and to increase numbers of the more popular titles that are on the lists. We are very eager for children to visit their local branch and borrow the books we have purchased with the funding provided. Students can also place holds on titles that they would like to read, but may not be housed in their local branch.
The titles that appear on the Premiers Reading Challenge lists are easily identifiable with coloured stickers on the spine labels of books, noting which reading list the book is from.
Children generally register with their school, however, if their school is not registering for the challenge they can still participate in the Challenge.
The Challenge runs until 31st August.
